Young swimmer crosses Brahmaputra River in just 27 minutes

GUWAHATI: A young swimmer Kamal Krishna Das from North Guwahati crossed the mighty Brahmaputra in just 27 minutes on Monday. He started from Kharghuli, Guwahati and reached Madhyam Khanda Ferry Ghat on the other bank in North Guwahati in just 27 minutes.
Kamal Krisha Das is a student of class 8 at Saint Anthony’s school.

Speaking to News Live the young swimmer said, “I always wished for crossing the Brahmaputra. Today I crossed the Brahmaputra river in 27 minutes. I started from Kharghuli, Guwahati. I reached Umananda within 7 minutes and as the current was high in this side of the river, so it took me around 20 minutes to reach North Guwahati from Umananda.”

“My family members including my father, my uncle helped me in this expedition. I practice for around 45 minutes every day. I want to be a good swimmer and I want to represent Assam at the National level in the future,” added Kamal Krishna Das.

Earlier, Kamal Krishna Das received the National Bravery Award from President Ram Nath Kovind for his exceptional acts of bravery. Kamal Krishna Das had saved two women from drowning after a private ferry capsized at North Guwahati on September 5, 2018.
