World Cup 2023 Semi-Final: Shami claims seven wickets, India reach World Cup final

PUBLISHED:

Team India continued its dominance in the ICC World Cup 2023 as the Men in Blue became the first finalist of the tournament.

India cruises into the final of World Cup 2023 by defeating New Zealand by 70 runs. The Men in Blue showcased a phenomenal all-round performance, seizing control of the match from the word go. Stellar knocks from Virat and Shreyas followed by Shami’s fiery spell helped the table toppers dominate their opponents.

A brave century by Daryl Mitchell, the only player to score a ton against India in this tournament, handed a massive scare to the home side defending 398 on a batting friendly track in the City of Dreams.

However, a seven-wicket haul by Mohammed Shami, third time that he took five wickets or more in this tournament – ensured that the Men in Blue struck back and made it to the summit clash of the mega tournament.

India successfully took revenge for the defeat it faced in the ICC World Cup 2019 against the Kiwis as the team defeated New Zealand by 70 runs. Rohit Sharma will now meet the winner of the 2nd semi-final at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad on 19 November for the finals of ICC World Cup 2023.

India’s star Virat Kohli and Shreyas Iyer slammed their respective centuries to take India towards the high score of 397/4 after 50 overs. Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, and KL Rahul also shined in India’s high-scoring batting campaign. New Zealand also did well with the bat and showed the fighting spirit with the match looking difficult for India at one point.
