Guwahati: A vehicle plying on the Kaliabhomora Setu over river Brahmaputra in Tezpur rammed into the railings of the bridge and fell down into the river on Monday morning.
Meanwhile, Police and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) have reached the spot and the search is on for the vehicle but it is yet to be found.
The initial inquiry has established that it was a multi-wheeler truck which did skid off the Kaliabhomora bridge and plunged into the Brahmaputra.
So far, authories have not made not made any official statement.
Locals blame absence of street lights for mishap.
Sonitpur district administration, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), and the Army have been called in for help.
“Looking into the extent of damage into the railings we suspect that the vehicle which has fallen into the river is a heavy one like a truck,” informed an Assam Police personnel from the spot.
“Right now SDRF and River Thana are conducting the search operations,” he further added.
The Kaliabhomora bridge connects the Nagaon district of Assam to the Sonitpur district.
It is not for the first time that such an accident has taken place over the bridge in the Brahmaputra. The bridge has been known for such accidents which with some losing their life as of yet.
