ULFA(I) not involved in Digboi grenade explosion: Paresh Baruah

PUBLISHED:

GUWAHATI: ULFA(I) chief Paresh Baruah has denied the organisation’s involvement in the Digboi grenade explosion incident. A person identified as Sanjib Sen (25) was killed in a grenade explosion at Tingrai market of Digboi in Tinsukia district on Friday. Three persons were also injured in the blast that took place at around 1 PM.

Talking to NewsLive chief managing editor Syed Zarir Hussain over phone, the ULFA(I) chief said, “This looks like a pre-planned work of a circle which may have the involvement of a rogue policeman or rogue army man. We don’t know why this is being done. Maybe they are trying to point it towards us. Today’s incident happened just a few hours after our demands were sent to companies involved in the oil and gas sectors. Our demands were welcomed by people of Assam and immediate action was taken to defame us.”

“I believe someone from the army or police is involved in it to malign our image among the people. We have not given such orders to any of our trained boys and we will not give such orders. Also, politically, it may be a handiwork to put pressure on the newly-formed government. It is the duty of the new government to find out who is behind it. I want to tell the public that ULFA(I) is neither connected to the Jagun grenade blast that took the life of a 12-year-old a few days ago and we are also not involved in today’s incident,” confirmed Paresh Baruah.
