PUBLISHED:

Unknown hackers, possibly operating from Pakistan attempted to hack Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s Facebook account on Tuesday night.

The attempted breach of the Chief Minister’s Facebook account was informed by the CM himself on social media platform X.

CM Sarma said that the preliminary information suggests the hacker may be based in Pakistan.

An ivestigation has been initiated to identify the perpetrators behind the cyber intrusion, he added.

“Unknown hackers made an attempt to hack my Facebook account this evening. Preliminary information suggests the hacker might be operating from Pakistan. Investigation is underway to identify the perpetrators,” Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma wrote on X.

Earlier this week, a video allegedly attributing statements to Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had emerged.

In the distorted video, the CM’s comments on Congress’s position on Tamil Nadu minister and DMK leader Udhaynidhi Stalin’s “Sanatana Dharma must be eradicated” have been manipulated to imply that Sarma is advocating for the eradication of Christianity and Islam. However, in the original video, he was questioning the duplicity of the Congress, an alliance partner of Stalin’s DMK.

Sharing the distorted video along with the original video on his X handle, CM Sarma said, “See for yourself, as elections approach, how vested groups distort a speech with the criminal intention of spreading disinformation and communal disharmony.

Assam Director General Of Police (DGP) GP Singh has directed the Crime Investigation Department (CID) to register a case in connection with the video and nab the individuals behind it.
