Second blast within 12 hrs rocks Manipur

Guwahati: A bomb blast has rocked the capital city of Imphal in Manipur in the wee hours of Friday.

The capital city of Imphal has been rocked by two bomb blasts within 12 hours on Thursday and Friday. The second blast was reported in the wee hours of Friday.

The blast took place around 3:30 am at the premises of a residential house that belong to one executive engineer identified as RK Virendra located at Khurai Thoidingjam Leikai.

The explosive is suspected to be an IED which exploded at around 3:30 am damaging three cars parked nearby.

However, no casualties have been reported as the bomb went off in the early morning.

A team from Porompat police station rushed to the blast site and conducted a preliminary investigation.

The police team assisted by officials from Forensic Department has already collected splinters scattered around the campus to establish the nature of the blast.

Meanwhile, the locals of the area initiated a protest against the bomb blasts which rocked Imphal twice in a span of 12 hours.

On Thursday, an IED blast was reported at the Nagamapal Lamabam Leikai area in Manipur’s Imphal West district.

The blast reportedly occurred at around 3:30 in the afternoon with no casualties or injuries reported.

So far no group has claimed responsibility for any of the two blasts.
