Prime Accused In Kokrajhar double Rape, murder Case Shot At While Trying To Escape: Assam Police

Guwahati:  One of the accused in the rape and murder of two minor girls in Assam’s Kokrajhar district was shot at and injured by the cops as he tried to escape.

The accused has been identified as Forizul Rahman. Notably, Forizul Rahman is one of the main accused in the double rape and murder case.

The accused has sustained grievous injuries and is admitted to the Fakruddin Ali Ahmed Medical College and Hospital (FAAMCH) in Barpeta. 

The incident took place during a search operation near Bedlangmari in the Kokrajhar district of Assam.
Assam Police’s Special DGP GP Singh shared the news through his Twitter handle.
Taking to his Twitter Singh wrote, “Reference alleged kokrajhar double Rape and murder case – one of the accused tried to escape during search operation near Bedlangmari, Salbari and police had to fire to prevent him from escaping. He’s grievously injured and hospitalised.@assampolice”

Earlier, Police arrested seven people for their involvement in the rape and murder of two teenage tribal girls in Assam’s Kokrajhar district.

The accused, aged between 19 to 27, were identified as Muzammil Sheikh, Nazibul Sheikh, Farouk Rahman, Hanif Sheikh, Jahanur Islam, Md. Atab Ali and Sankarde Barman.

Kokrajhar district Superintendent of Police (SP) Thube Prateek Kumar informed that the three prime accused among the seven arrested have confessed to raping and killing the two tribal girls.

The two minor girls, aged 14 and 16, were found hanging from a tree in a village under the Kokrajhar police station on June 11. Police had confirmed that they were raped and killed.

Assam DGP Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta said in a press conference on Tuesday that the teenage girls were raped before they were killed.

Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma congratulated the police for nabbing the perpetrators expeditiously.

CM Sarma also travelled to Kokrajhar district and met the victims’ family last Sunday. On the orders of the chief minister, a Special Investigation Team was formed to probe the incident.
