GUWAHATI: United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL) president Pramod Boro will be the new chief of the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC).
The coalition of the BJP, UPPL and Naba Sarania’s Gana Suraksha Party (GSP) will form the council, announced Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal while addressing a press meet in Guwahati.
Pramod Boro, former president of the All Bodo Students’ Union (ABSU) was one of the signatories of the Bodo Peace Accord on January 27 in 2020. He left the students’ body to join the UPPL. Boro led the party in the BTC election as its president.
“Today is a historic day. We-the UPPL, BJP and GSP have united today to serve the people of the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR),” Pramod Boro said.
He has won from Koklabari and Goibari constituencies. The UPPL has bagged total 12 seats out of the 40 constituencies in the BTC. While, the BJP has won 9 seats, Naba Sarania’s GSP emerged victorious in one seat.
