Participation in Anti-CAA protest only to get RS ticket: Himanta Biswa Sarma

PUBLISHED:

Guwahati: Assam Finance Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday targeted the Congress and AIDUF who are trying to form an alliance for the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections in Assam. The parties are trying to project a candidate for the third seat. The election for the three Rajya Sabha from Assam will be held on 26th March.

Talking to the media, Dr. Sarma said, “According to Tarun Gogoi (senior Congress leader) a few people who held hands during the CAA protest met him. These people have requested or sent delegations to Gogoi or have directly met him in person.  And each of them has a common belief that as they were a part of anti-CAA movement, they are eligible to for a Rajya Sabha ticket. Was the anti-CAA movement only to get a ticket for Rajya Sabha?”

Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma also added, “It feels like all these people had only supported the anti-CAA movement to get a Rajya Sabha ticket from Congress and AIDUF. I would like to request all these people that our seven generations won’t remember the anti-CAA movement or what they did during the protest but will remember about filing nominations from Ajmal’s party to get a ticket for the Rajya Sabha elections. So, I urge them not to make a mistake and take a ticket from AIDUF. It is now clear that the anti-CAA protest was nothing but to get a ticket to Rajya Sabha.”
