Not our culture! Pijush Hazarika on Mahila Congress president Netta D’souza harassing Smriti Irani at Guwahati airport

Guwahati: Assam minister Pijush Hazarika Sunday slammed acting Mahila Congress President Netta D’Souza after the latter was seen harassing Union Minister Smriti Irani at Guwahati airport saying such actions are “not part of our culture” and that “guest has the status of God”.

A video that had gone viral showed an altercation ensuing between Union Minister Irani and the Congress leader Netta D’Souza over skyrocketing gas and petrol prices in the country.

The incident took place at an aerobridge at the Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi Airport in Guwahati.

Pijush Hazarika further said the attitude of the Congress leader went against the spirit of Assamese values and ethos.

Hazarika added that the aerobridge was no place to engage in debates as there are an ample number of democratic platforms for such a conversation. In fact, Hazarika termed the Congress leader’s behaviour as abusive.

A video uploaded by D’zouza on her Twitter account showed her questioning Irani about the rising cost of fuel and gas. Irani was heard requesting D’souza not to block the exit of fellow passengers and also accused the Congress leader of putting out misleading facts.

Irani was also heard telling D’sousa that it was inappropriate to accost someone in this manner. Irani also gave details of the Modi government’s initiatives for the public as D’sousa kept on questioning her.

Union Minister Smriti Zubin Irani had arrived in Guwahati to chair the Zonal Conference of State Governments and Stakeholders of the North-East region.
