Not congress but AAP emerge as BJP’s main opposition in GMC election

PUBLISHED:

Guwahati: Amid the saffron party sweeping the Guwahati Municipal Corporation Elections (GMC), Aam Aadmi Party has made its debut by winning one ward as the counting of votes continues at Maniram Dewan Trade Centre.

And in a large chunk of seats where BJP candidates have won, it’s AAP candidates and not Congress who have emerged second best.

Congress has failed significantly in the GMC elections too.

A few days earlier APCC president Bhupen Bora claimed that the people have given their mandate in support of Congress.

He also stated that the party will choose the Mayor and Deputy Mayor as he firmly believes that the people will be in his party’s favour.

AAP’s candidate Masuma Begum won from Ward Number – 42.

Speaking to the media Masuma Begum said, ” Clean drinking water for the people of my ward is my main motto. Artificial floods and disrupted roads are problems too. I hope that I can solve all the problems of my ward and I seek the blessings of the people so I can work for the development of my ward.”

Ward Number 42 comprises area of Barsajai, Hatigaon, Notboma and Embakement Road.
