Naoboicha MLA Bharat Narah quits Congress after wife Ranee Narah denied ticket from Lakhimpur

GUWAHATI, March 25: There’s fresh trouble for the already-beleaguered Congress party in Assam with veteran party leader and Naoboicha MLA Bharat Chandra Narah resigning from the party after his wife Ranee Narah, a former Union Minister and Lok Sabha MP, was denied the ticket from Lakhimpur constituency.

Narah had on Saturday resigned as chairman of APCC’s media cell, making it clear that the Congress high command’s decision to award the ticket to Uday Shankar Hazarika did not go down well with the Narah couple.

The Naoboicha MLA, who was also a minister in the Tarun Gogoi Government, shot off a single-line resignation letter to Congress president Malikarjun Kharge.

“I do hereby resign from the Indian National Congress with immediate effect,” Bharat Narah wrote in his resignation letter.

The miffed leader, despite numerous efforts from News Live for a reaction over his quitting the Congress party, did not respond to our calls.
