GUWAHATI: Ahead of the second phase of the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) elections in Assam, Police detained Lok Sabha MP and Gana Suraksha Party (GSP) president Naba Kumar Sarania for distributing cash in the Salakati area of Kokrajhar district on Tuesday night. Along with Sarania, 6 accomplices of the MP were also detained for violating model code of conduct.
Later they were brought to Kokrajhar Police Station. They were under detention overnight.
According to police sources, Sarania was distributing cash in a village in the Salakati area.
Later on Wednesday morning, Sarania and his supporters were released.
Meanwhile, MP Naba Kumar Sarania denied allegation labeled against him.
“There must be a conspiracy behind it. We don’t need to distribute cash. We don’t have fund to distribute,” the Lok Sabha MP said.
