I-Day police medal for Bhaskar Kalita who died fighting ULFA(I) militants

Brave Assam police trooper Bhaskar Kalita, who died fighting ULFA(I) militants at Bordumsa last year, has won the Independence Day Police medal for gallantry posthumously. The award will be conferred during the 73rd Independence Day tomorrow.

Bhaskar Kalita, the officer-in-charge of Bordumsa police station, made the supreme sacrifice during a gunbattle with a group of ULFA(I) militants along the Assam-Arunachal border on the night of May 4, 2018.

The brave Assam cop’s death had also triggered a row with questions raised on the quality of bullet-proof with Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal ordering an inquiry into alleged faulty bullet-proof vests.

Although Bhaskar Kalita was wearing a bullet-proof vest, as many as nine bullets had pierced his body during the encounter.
