Guwahati: IEDs recovered on basis of information provided by arrested ULFA cadre

GUWAHATI: The Assam Police on Wednesday evening recovered two suspected low-intensity Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) in two different places of Guwahati — Pan Bazar and Paltan Bazar.

According to sources an ULFA cadre was arrested in Tinsukia by the Assam Police. Based on the information provided by this ULFA cadre Assam Police recovered the two IEDs in Guwahati.

“We had inputs regarding the planting of IEDs. So the moment we got the news a search operation was conducted and the IEDs were recovered. It was found in a plastic container in a drain. These IEDs are not of high intensity and police is doing everything necessary to provide security. This is not a high alert and there is no need for people to panic,” said Munna Prasad Gupta, Commissioner of Police (CP), Guwahati.

The police is yet to confirm whether it is the handiwork of ULFA or some other group.
