GUWAHATI: In a move to support the Assam Government in its battle against COVID19, employees of Guwahati Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) donated more than Rs. 1 lakh 72 thousand to Assam Arogya Nidhi.
All the officers and staff members of the GMDA contributed one day salary to state COVID19 fund. The total amount counts Rs. 1,72,846. The amount was sent through National Electronic Funds Transfer (NEFT) to the designated account of Assam Arogya Nidhi.
The employees also stated that they would follow health minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma’s appeal and help at least five families who are in distress amid lockdown.
As the Assam Government has put a hard fight against Coronavirus outbreak, many people and organisations have come forward to help the government through Assam Arogya Nidhi.
Recently Rima Ghosh, a college student from Rangia under Kamrup district donated Rs 1.93 lakh kept in her bank account by parents. She handed over the cheque to Assam irrigation minister Bhabesh Kalita. Rima said her parents were saving the money for her marriage, but she decided to donate the amount due to the threat arising from the virus outbreak.
Assam Gramin Vikash Bank (AGVB) donated Rs. 10 lakh to Assam Arogya Nidhi on Monday. Representative of the bank handed over the cheque to Assam health minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma at National Health Mission (NHM), Assam office in Guwahati.
On the other hand, three businessmen of the state— Anupam Sarma, Aditya Goswami and Anil Das donated a total amount of Rs. 1 crore 46 lakh to Assam Arogya Nidhi. Trio handed over the money through cheque to Assam health minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma.
“I have donated Rs. 50 Lakh to ‘PM-Cares’ fund and Rs. 25 lakh to ‘Assam Arogya Nidhi’. I have contributed total Rs. 75 lakh,” said businessman Anupam Sarma.
Two other businessmen—Anil Das and Aditya Goswami contributed Rs. 50 lakh and 21 lakh respectively.
Many business establishments, schools-colleges have also come forward at this hour of crisis.
