GUWAHATI: With the Congress-AIUDF coalition now in a tango mode and the formation of a new regional party Assam Jatiya Parishad on 14th September, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Assam is positive that they will once again form the government in Assam.

Speaking to the media in Hojai, BJP Assam President, Ranjeet Kumar Dass stated that the Congress-AIUDF coalition will not dent BJP’s vote-bank. In fact, according to Dass as a result of this coalition, the BJP will gain majorly in Upper and North Bank and will be able to wrest Golaghat, Mariani, Titabar, Sarupathar, Sibsagar, Doomdooma, and Naoboicha from the Congress and AIUDF.

Explaining the scenario the BJP President said that BJP and its allies have 87 seats in the current assembly. Going by Assam Congress President Ripu Bora’s claim that Congress will wrest 15 seats from the BJP coalition, the BJP will still be in a comfort zone with 72 seats. Adding the seven seats from Upper Assam and North Bank, the BJP will win 79 seats. Even by Ripun Bora’s calculation the BJP is going to form the next government in Assam, said the BJP Assam President. Dass also stated that the new party Assam Jatiya Parishad formed by the AASU-AJYCP will not be able to take away BJP’s vote share.
