Covid Alert: Assam logs record 8,072 cases in a single day spike

Guwahati:  Assam‘s COVID tally has taken a massive spike with more than 8000 cases being reported in the last 24 hours. In the latest numbers, a total of 8,072 fresh COVID cases have been reported from the state.

Out of these fresh cases, 1,996 cases have been reported from the Kamrup Metropolitan district. With these fresh cases, Assam’s COVID positivity rate now stands at 12.62 percent.

The state’s current active caseload stands at a total of 29,550. What is more concerning is that the number of COVID-related deaths has also been increasing in the state. Notably, Assam today reported 16 fresh COVID-related deaths.

On the other hand, a total of 2,444 COVID patients have been discharged in the last 24 hours after attaining full recovery. This puts Assam’s recovery rate at 94.39 percent.

The State Cabinet today to be held at Halflong will focus on the Covid scenario of the state among other things. This was informed by state Health Minister Keshab Mahanta yesterday. Assam has already put in place strict curbs on the movement of the unvaccinated.
