COVID-19: India Logs 1,94,720 New Cases, Positivity Rate At 11.05 %

Guwahati: India reported 1,94,720 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours (subsequently higher than yesterday’s 1,68,063 cases), taking the country’s tally since the pandemic began in 2020 to 3,60,70,510.

The death toll jumped to 4,84,655 with 442 fresh fatalities.

According to Union Health Ministry data released on Wednesday (January 12), the total active cases in the country rose to 9,55,319.

This is the 15th consecutive day that India saw a rise in the daily Covid-19 case count.

The country has recorded a total of 60,405 recoveries in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of recoveries to 3,46,30,536, as per the official data.

The active cases comprise 2.65 per cent of the total infections, while India’s COVID-19 recovery rate is at 96.01%, the health ministry said.

The daily positivity rate was recorded at 11.05%.

The weekly positivity rate was recorded at 9.82%.

Meanwhile, India’s Omicron tally rose to 4,868 on Wednesday (January 12).

The variant of concern that was first detected in South Africa in November has now spread to 28 states in India.

Among the 4,868 cases, Maharashtra reported the highest number of infections at 1,281, followed by Rajasthan at 645, Delhi at 546, Karnataka at 479, Kerala at 350, and West Bengal at 294, as per the Health Ministry data.

As per Union Health Ministry, Assam has so far reported 9 cases of Omicron variant and all the nine patients have recovered.

The health ministry said 1,805 out of the 4,868 people who caught the infection have recovered or “migrated”.
