CBI arrests Railway Official in Guwahati for taking Rs. 1 crore bribe

GUWAHATI: The Central Bureau of Investigation(CBI) on Sunday arrested a senior Railway Department Official of Northeast Frontier Railway from the Office of the General Manager(P), Maligaon, Guwahati for accepting a bribe of rupees one crore for providing a railway tender to a private company.

According to reports, the payment was made to Mahendra Singh Chauhan (IRSE), chief administrative officer, N. F. Railway Office of the General Manager(P), Maligaon, Guwahati to favor ABCI Infrastructure Ltd.  

A Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) team conducted a search operation and arrested Chauhan from the N.F Railway Office in Maligaon. Also, the company that paid the bribe for the contract has been booked for the alleged corruption.

Meanwhile, the CBI team raided a total of 20 places, including Chauhan’s residence, office in connection with the bribery incident and recovered the money amounting to rupees one crore from the accused.

It is to be mentioned that the accused Mahendra Singh Chauhan is an Indian Railway Service of Engineers(IRSE) candidate of the 1985 batch.
