GUWAHATI: Archana Mahanta, noted folk singer from Assam has been admitted to a private nursing home in Guwahati following a brain stroke.
According to reports, the acclaimed singer is undergoing treatment at Health City Hospital in Guwahati.
Meanwhile, Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal has wished speedy recovery of the veteran singer.
“Concerned over the news of eminent Assamese singer Smt. Archana Mahanta baideu’s illness. My prayers for her quick recovery,” Sonowal tweeted.
Archana Mahanta and her late husband Khagen Mahanta had enormous contribution in popularising and preserving Assamsese folk music. There are many evergreen songs to the credit of the popular singer couple.
Their son Papon is a famous playback singer in Bollywood.
