Guwahati: Assam Assembly Speaker Hitendra Nath Goswami on Thursday suspended two Congress members –North Karimganj MLA, Kamalakhya Dey Purkayastha and Mariani MLA, Rupjyoti Kurmi on the third day of the Budget Session of Assam Legislative Assembly. The MLAs refused to sit down after they were denied permission to raise an issue related to the closed tea gardens and industrial developments.

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary on behalf of his party was answering queries when the duo started raising the issue and disrupted the assembly.

Denying them permission, Goswami asked the Congress MLAs to stop and sit down but they continued arguing. The speaker then asked them to leave the house but they refused to do so, following which marshals were called and they were removed forcibly.

Talking to the media Kamalakhya Dey Purkayastha said, “We were removed from the assembly today but they can’t remove us from the heart of the people. Whatever the government is doing it’s not right. Let them remove us from the assembly we will come again and will go till the last length to serve the people”.

Rupjyoti Kurmi also said that he is hurt by the decision of the speaker as he was also denied permission to speak in the assembly.
