GUWAHATI: In a major breakthrough, an Assam Police team on Sunday rescued two youths of Hatigaon from Nagaon district in Assam. According to reports, the two youths identified as Nawaz Ali and Rakibul Malla of Sijubari, Hatigaon, Guwahati were abducted on January 11 from Haibargaon in Nagaon.
Notably, Nawaz and Rakibul were in the Haibargaon area in Nagaon and were kidnapped by their friend named Gulzar Ali, who planned a picnic party with them to kidnap them.
The accused demanded a total of Rs. 15 lakh as ransom amount from their families and in the meantime, the family members also paid one lakh rupees as advance.
“On 11 January, we took a bus to Nagaon from Paltanbazar, Guwahati and we were in Haibargaon area in Nagaon when a friend, Gulzar Ali met us and asked us to go to a picnic party with them and later abducted us,” said an abducted youth.
On Sunday, acting on a tip-off, the Hatigaon Police in an operation rescued the two youth from Nagaon. Gulzar who has been identified as the mastermind is currently absconding and investigations are underway.
