Earlier, Assam health, finance and education minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma announced the decision of the State government to register a case against Sharjeel Imam.
“State government has taken cognizance of this seditious statement. This statement is aimed to create a law and order situation in the state of Assam. So, on this statement, state government has decided to register a case against this particular individual,” Dr. Sarma stated in a press meet in Guwahati today.
Sharjeel Imam reportedly made the controversial statement at a protest saying, “Do you know what is happening to Assamese Muslims? NRC is already applied there. They have been put in detention centres. We may come to know that in 6-8 months all Bengalis have been killed – Hindu or Muslim. If we want to help Assam, then we will have to stop the way to Assam for the Indian Army and other supplies.”
