Assam: PM Modi to lay foundation stone for Kamakhya Corridor and other projects worth Rs 11,599 Cr in Guwahati

 Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be on a two-day visit to Assam from Saturday.

During his visit PM Modi will lay the foundation stone for the Maa Kamakhya Access Corridor on February 4 , a significant project under the Prime Minister’s Development Initiative for North-East Region (PM-DevINE) scheme. 

The PM-DevINE scheme, announced in the Union Budget 2022-23, focuses on the rapid and comprehensive development of the North-East Region. 

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, while briefing the media, revealed that the Kamakhya Corridor project is set to transform the religious and cultural landscape in the region.

The Prime Minister will inaugurate and lay the foundation stone of projects worth Rs 11,599 crore in Guwahati.

Prime Minister Modi will lay the foundation stone of multiple road upgradation projects worth over Rs 3400 crore, under which, 43 roads, including 38 bridges, will be upgraded as part of the South Asia Subregional Economic Cooperation (SASEC) corridor connectivity.

The Prime Minister will also inaugurate two four-laning projects, Dolabari to Jamuguri and Biswanath Chariali to Gohpur, projects. These projects will help improve the connectivity to Arunachal Pradesh’s capital Itanagar and boost the overall economic development of the region, the PMO release added.

In addition, with a view to harness the tremendous sports potential of the region, Prime Minister Modi will lay the foundation stone of projects to boost the sports infrastructure in Assam.

The projects include an international standard sports stadium at Chandrapur on the outskirts of Guwahati and the upgradation of Guwahati’s Nehru stadium as an International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) standard football stadium. The Prime Minister will also lay the foundation stone for development of infrastructure of the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) in Guwahati.

Moreover, the foundation stone for the development of a medical college in Assam’s Karimganj district will also be laid, the release further stated.
