Assam Health Dept writes to EC to postpone BTC elections

GUWAHATI: The Assam health department has urged the State Election Commission to postpone Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) elections, said health, finance and education minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma. The health department sent a letter to the election commission in view of COVID-19 pandemic. 

Talking to media persons, Dr. Sarma said, “The health department has clearly asked the state election commission to postpone the BTC polls. We have written to the commission to postpone the elections and withdraw the model code of conduct.”

The health minister stated that if elections take place in Bodoland Territorial Area District (BTAD), the COVID-19 infection will spread further to non-BTAD districts.
