The rise & rise of Abhishek Sharma… From a cricket prodigy to No. 2 in ICC T20I rankings

GUWAHATI, Feb 5: Indian cricket’s latest poster boy Abhishek Sharma has jumped a whopping 38 places to secure the second spot in the latest ICC rankings for T20I batters. The massive leap comes after his whirlwind knock of 135 runs in just 54 balls against England in the fifth and final T20 international of the 5-match series at the Wankhede.

The Punjab southpaw replaced fellow India batter Tilak Verma in the second spot.

The India opener’s explosive knock helped the Men in Blue annihilate the Englishmen in Mumbai, as they won by a massive 150 runs to win the 5-match series 4-1.

While Australian Travis Head leads the T20I batting charts, Phil Salt and Suryakumar Yadav made up the top-five batters in the rankings for the shortest format of the game.

Meanwhile, spinner Varun Chakravarthy, who finished as the highest wicket-taker in the T20 series against England, moved up three spots to go joint-second in the bowling charts.
