Assam: Girl students to get scooties from today

GUWAHATI: The Assam government will award Dr. Banikanta Kakati Merit Award to 22,245 girl students of the state from today. The girl students who had passed the Higher Secondary Examination 2020 in first division will be given scooties under the Assam government’s flagship Pragyan Bharati scheme. Dr. Banikanta Kakati Merit Award is presented under the Pragyan Bharati scheme.

Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal and education minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma will distribute the scooties to the girl students of Kamrup and Kamrup (Metro) districts at a centrally organised function at Numali Jalah Parade Ground, Amingaon. 

The girl students of remianing districts will be given the scooters at district level functions on January 2 and 3, 2021.

Under the Pragyan Bharati scheme, total Rs. 144.30 crore will be spent to provide scooties to 22245 girl students to make their journey in the pursuit of knowledge smoother.

While, 22034 students have opted for petrol-driven scooter, 211 girl students have chosen battery-driven scooter.
