GUWAHATI: The decision of the Assam government to provide free scooties to all the female students who had scored 60 per cent marks in the higher secondary final year exams under the state council has brought a ray of hope of to 22 thousand eligible students.
Under the ‘Pragyan Bharati’ scheme, free scooties will be provided to 22 thousand girl students who had passed higher secondary 2nd year exams in the year 2020 under the Assam Higher Secondary Education Council (AHSEC).
The scheme has got a positive reception from the students as they hope it will end the perils of poor transportation and help them in attending colleges.
“We are really happy. Earlier we used to attend colleges riding bicycles. It was time-consuming. Now scooties will help us to save time and concentrate more on studies,” said a student of Lakhyadhar Choudhury College in North Guwahati.
The students can opt for either petrol-run or electric vehicle. The Board of Secondary Education, Assam (SEBA) has already launched an online portal to register the choices of the students.
