Animesh Bhuyan Murder Case: Jorhat Police Submits Chargesheet

Guwahati: After a long wait of  over a month, the Jorhat Police on Monday submitted the charge sheet in the infamous Animesh Bhuyan lynching case.

14 persons have been accused including the prime accused Neeraj Das alias Kola lora who had died in an accident while in police custody.

On November 30, state chief minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma assuring a stringent action in the case had ordered the state police to furnish the chargesheet within 30 days for a speedy trial.

Assam CM Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma informed about the development through his Twitter handle. “As promised @jorhatpolice has charge-sheeted 14 accused persons (one has since died & one is Child in conflict with law) in the infamous Animesh Bhuyan assault and murder in 50 days. Police has been directed to have expeditious trial,” he wrote on his tweet.

 

Earlier, police arrested a total of 15 persons involved in the mob lynching case of  Animesh Bhuyan.

On 29 November one of the leaders of the All Assam Student Union, Animesh Bhuyan was brutally killed in a mob attack during the day hours in Jorhat town of Assam.

This serious accident took place when Animesh and two friends were misunderstood to have hit an elderly person with their vehicle.

The situation turned violent after heated arguments as it was alleged that Animesh and his friends intentionally harmed the elderly man who was injured.

Animesh was then beaten to death by the attackers and his two companions got severely injured who were admitted to the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH).

On November 30,  Jorhat police arrested the prime accused named Neeraj Das aka Kola Lora. But after a day of hisarrest, the police informed about the death of Neeraj Das following an accident while trying to flee away from the police custody.

Police officials informed that Neeraj Das has revealed about illegal drugs business and police were about to seize them but meantime he jumped from the vehicle of police in order to escape from their custody and he was hit by the police vehicle which led to his death.
