The Ahmedabad city police arrested a man from Danilimda on Thursday for allegedly assaulting a woman from Northeast in a public place. CCTV footage of the assault went viral on Wednesday.
In the viral footage, the accused identified as Mohsin Hussain Rangrej is seen thrashing the woman from Nagaland outside a spa on Sindhu Bhavan Road in the Bodakdev area. The incident took place on Monday.
Mohsin Rangrez, a 29-year-old resident of Danilimda, was taken into custody by the Gujarat police after he was located attempting to meet the victim at a gurudwara. The video evidence clearly shows him subjecting the woman to a violent attack, including dragging her by her hair and tearing her clothes.
The assault took place outside the spa premises and was captured by a CCTV camera, providing crucial evidence for the subsequent investigation. Authorities began their inquiry into the case on September 27 when a formal First Information Report (FIR) was registered.
On the basis of the victim’s complaint, Bodakdev police arrested one Mohsin under Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections 354A, 294(b), and 323.
Suo motu action was taken by the police, who persuaded the victim woman to register a FIR following counselling.
The victim woman indicated that she and Mohsin were partners in this ladies’ salone, and the conflict occurred over scolding a female and a loss of Rs. 4,000 to Rs. 5,000. Initially, the victim woman was hesitant to submit a complaint.
The accused is presently on the run.
The video, widely shared on the internet, showed Mohsin repeatedly assaulting the woman, even tearing her clothes apart during the relentless four-minute attack, sparking widespread outrage.
According to the details, the woman did not file a complaint against the accused for two days following the incident.
The Bodakdev police reached out to the woman with the help of a social worker and provided her with counseling.
During interrogations, it was revealed that the woman was Mohsin’s business partner at the spa.
Police said an argument between the two had turned violent, following which the accused thrashed her and dragged her by the hair.
