Guwahati: Actor Asif Basra was found dead in Himachal Pradesh’s Mcleodganj, the police have said. A forensic team has arrived to find out how he died, the police said, adding they are investigating whether it was death by suicide. He was 53.
“Film actor Asif Basra was found hanging in a private complex in Dharamshala. The forensic team is at the spot and police is investigating the matter,” SSP Kangra, Vimukt Ranjan was quoted as saying by ANI.
The actor was best known for his critically acclaimed roles in Anurag Kashyap’s Black Friday and Rahul Dholakia’s Parzania. He had also appeared in several other Bollywood movies including, Abhishek Kapoor-directed Kai Po Che, Jab We Met, Hichki, Once Upon a Time in Mumbaai, Krrish 3, Ek Villain among others.
He was recently seen in the popular thriller web series Paatal Lok.
Filmmaker Hansal Mehta tweeted, “Asif Basra! Can’t be true… This is just very, very sad.”
Born in Maharashtra’s Amravati in 1967, Basra had moved to Mumbai in 1989 to pursue his acting career.
