Guwahati: Police lathi-charge, fire tear gas at protesters at GS Road

Guwahati: Guwahati City Police resorted to lathi-charge and firing of tear gas shells on students and other protesters as they tried blocking the busy GS Road at Bhangagarh, Christian Basti and other places on Wednesday afternoon.

Students from a number of colleges in Guwahati, including students from Cotton University, Handique Girls’ College and B Borooah College, blocked the busy street at many places as they demanded of the Government to refrain from “imposing the legislation on Assam”.

Police lathi-charged protesters besides and fired tear gas on them to prevent them from marching towards the Assam Secretariat.

“We won’t accept CAB in any way. Our protest will continue till the Government decides against imposing the proposed legislation on us,” a student protester said.

Many protesters were injured in the clashes and lathi-charge by Police at Ganeshguri as the protesters continued to march towards the secretariat.
