A day after outspoken BJP MLA Shiladitya Dev took a dig at Zubeen Garg for speaking against the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, the singing megastar hit back by asking fans and followers “not to react in unnecessary issues”.

The singer-filmmaker took to the social media and, besides asking fans and followers not to react to such attacks, reiterated his opposition to the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill.

“I request all my fans and fan clubs not to react in unnecessary issues. This is the time we should fight for the greater cause of Assam. If someone alleges me with baseless arguments, kindly ignore them. They can do nothing to me. I don’t care. We should focus on the prime motive which is to fight against the Citizenship Amendment Bill. These are traps to disintegrate us from our mission. They can’t stop us,” he wrote on popular social networking website ‘facebook’.

The Hojai MLA had on Thursday asked Zubeen not to make political statements during Bihu stage shows in what was an obvious reference to the series of statements the singer has been making on the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill and his opposition to it.

Meanwhile, in a related development, AGP MLA Pabindra Deka backed Zubeen while accusing Shiladitya Dev and former Congress minister Ardhendu Kumar Deb of trying to create a divide between the Assamese and Bengali-speaking people of Assam.
