Zubeen Garg courts fresh controversy with derogatory remark on Satradhikars, faces brickbats

PUBLISHED:

GUWAHATI, April 23: Zubeen Garg on Tuesday night courted yet another controversy, this time after he openly objected to Satradhikars being called ‘Prabhu Ishwar’.

Zubeen was performing at a bihu function at Garmur in Majuli during which he was bestowed with the title of ‘Sangeet Sindhu’.

It was at this time when he made a disparaging remark against the Satradhikars and questioned why they are addressed ‘Prabhu Ishwar’.

“I don’t like Satradhikars being called ‘Prabhu Ishwar. It cannot be. You cannot be God…,” the singer and music composer said.

Zubeen Garg’s comment caught the audience as well as the organising committee by surprise as such a remark. He later took back his remark after organizing committee members objected and disapproved of his behavior.

His remark, meanwhile, led to widespread criticism with satradhikars from across the State as well as the common people demanding an apology from the singer over his disparaging remark.

“Zubeen Garg’s remark is in bad taste. He has no knowledge about Satriya culture. He should tender an apology,” Dr Pitambar Deva Goswami, Satradhikar of SriSri Auniati Satra, told News Live.
