World Oral Health Day celebrated in West Karbi Anglong, experts stress importance of oral hygiene

World Oral Health Day is celebrated on March 20 every year and is dedicated to raising awareness about the importance of maintaining good oral health

GUWAHATI, March 24: West Karbi Anglong joined the global community in celebrating World Oral Health Day, a day dedicated to raising awareness about the importance of maintaining good oral health.

The event, which was held at Hamren Civil Hospital, aimed to highlighting how oral health is intrinsically linked to overall well-being. It also sought to educate the public about the importance of good oral hygiene practices and the prevention of oral diseases, which can have significant impacts on general health.

The World Oral Health Day celebration programme was presided over by Dr Altaf Hussain, Superintendent of Hamren Civil Hospital, who emphasized the importance of spreading knowledge on oral health and its significance in preventing a range of health issues.

Dr Hussain highlighted that oral health is often overlooked, but plays a crucial role in not only maintaining a healthy mouth but also in contributing to an individual’s overall health and quality of life.

The programme saw the participation of a number of distinguished guests and healthcare professionals who have been instrumental in promoting oral health in the region. Dr Partha Sharma, the District Nodal Officer of the National Oral Health Programme in West Karbi Anglong, spoke about the importance of government initiatives in raising awareness and providing resources for oral health services, particularly in rural areas.

Dr Sharma also underscored the need for consistent oral health education and its integration into the daily routines of individuals, especially among children.

Along with the World Oral Health Day, a month-long awareness campaign was also launched during the programme.

Dr Sarsing Rongpi, Additional Chief Medical and Health Officer, and Hilton Saikia, the District Programme Manager of the National Health Mission, West Karbi Anglong, both expressed their commitment to supporting oral health programmes and enhancing access to oral care for the people of West Karbi Anglong.

They discussed the efforts being made to improve oral health infrastructure in the region and ensure that oral health services are available to communities, particularly in remote and underserved areas.
