Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal said his government will not take any decision that goes against the interests of Assam & its people. Chief Minister Sonowal, while highlighting the achievements of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led Assam Government in the past two years on the occasion of the BJP-AGP-BPF government’s second anniversary, was replying to questions on the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016.

He also said the NRC update process will be completed by June 30 and that the Indo-Bangla border will be completely fenced by December, 2018, adding that the government is committed to making Assam foreigner-free.

Chief Minister Sonowal said the alliance government has done a pretty good job with the help and support of the people of Assam and reiterated the crackdown, he said, the government has launched on graft and corruption adding that it will continue in the future as well.

He listed crackdown on corruption, bringing about reforms in Assam Public Service Commission (APSC), filling up around 45,000 vacancies transparently, increasing revenue and successfully implementing schemes in Education & Health departments as major achievements of his government.

The Assam chief minister further claimed that under PM Narendra Modi’s guidance, the entire Northeast has emerged from the periphery to becoming the new engine of India’s economic growth, adding that Assam is leading in attracting investments & redrawing the map of Southeast Asian connectivity, making it India’s expressway to ASEAN.

He also released a booklet titled ‘PORIBORTON’ to highlight the achievements of the State government in the past two years.

It may be mentioned here that Sarbananda Sonowal had on May 24, 2016, taken oath as chief minister of Assam after the BJP-AGP-BPF alliance ousted the three-term Congress government from power.
