Guwahati: In yet another incident of human-wildlife conflict, a seventy-six-year-old woman was mauled to death in an elephant attack on Tuesday night at Dihing under Digboi Forest Zone, Tinsukia.
The deceased has been identified as Girjamani Muddamesti.
It is to be noted that the incident took place at Shillong Road Area Officer Colony in the residential area of Indian Oil Corporation (Assam Oil Zone).
Girjamani was attacked by the herd of elephants and was killed brutally. The elephants mauled the body and kept it under their possession for some time.
Due to the dense forest cover of the Dining Patkai Reserve around the town of Digboi, the wild elephants have been entering the area in search of food, disturbing the locals now and then.
Many people have lost their lives due to human-elephant conflict.
After such incidents, the presence of the local forest department as well as the forest ranger camp, the utter failure of the department can be seen apparently.
