GUWAHATI, Oct 23: A woman employee of a firecracker industry in Barpeta, who was injured along with more than 10 other co-workers following a massive fire that had broken out yesterday evening, succumbed to her injuries at the Gauhati Medical College Hospital (GMCH) today.
The deceased, identified as Parbati Das of Barpeta, was rushed to the GMCH along with seven other injured people after suffering serious burn injures in the fire that was accompanied by cracker explosions.
The blaze and the subsequent explosion at the firecracker manufacturing unit named Assam Crackers Industry located at Bilortari Hati had taken place Tuesday evening.
The condition of a couple of the other injured employees is also critical, family members said.
Meanwhile, family members of Parbati Das said they did not get a single paise from the firecracker industry owners during her treatment. The owners, they further alleged, neither inquire about her health after the mishap.
They have also sought an inquiry as to how the mishap took place in the first place besides seeking adequate compensation from the owners as well as from the government.
