Weekend lockdown in all towns of Assam


GUWAHATI: The Assam Government has decided to impose weekend lockdown in all the towns of Assam excluding Guwahati. Assam health minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma said that lockdown will come into force in every Saturday and Sunday in all the areas under town and municipality committees.

On the other hand, Guwahati will be placed under lockdown from Sunday midnight.

The areas under Kamrup Metropolitan district will come under lockdown. All the shops including vegetable, grocery, meat shops will remain shut for seven days. Dr. Sarma informed media persons that government will review the situation after seven days.

The decision has been taken with the spike of COVID-19 positive cases in Guwahati. Dr.Sarma mentioned that around fifty per cent of Assam’s cases have been reported from Guwahati.

Inter-district travel restriction has also been imposed during lockdown.
