War on Drugs: Yaba tablets worth Rs 2 crore seized in Guwahati

Guwahati: The war on drugs continues in the city as the Guwahati Police seized a huge quantity of drugs from Jorabat on Friday.

The police team seized Yaba tablets worth Rs. 2crore from the Jorabat area.

The banned tablet was transported from Guwahati to Sonapur in a truck.

Based on a tip-off, police searched the truck bearing number AS-01 EC-5478 at Jorabat.

Five packets full of banned ‘Yaba’ tablets were seized from the truck during the search. The seized tablets are worth around Rs 2 crore and were brought from Mizoram to Guwahati.

Three persons involved in the sale of these tablets have been apprehended by the police.

The apprehended peddlers have been identified as Javed Khan, Salimuddin and Nazir Ahmed.

It may be noted that Guwahati has become a hub of international drug dealers in recent times.

Drugs from Myanmar Mizoram and Manipur have been transported from Guwahati to different parts of Assam as well as the country.

Each tablet is sold in the market for Rs 500 to Rs 1000.

The apprehended peddlers are being interrogated at the Jorabat police outpost.
