War On Drugs: Heroin Worth ₹12 crores Seized, 2 Detained In Bokajan

Guwahati: The war on drugs continues in the state as the Karbi Anglong Police on Tuesday night, detained two drugs smugglers and recovered large quantities of heroin from them in Bokajan in Assam.

The apprehended smugglers were identified as Bimal Tassa (23) and Saddam Hussain(26). The cache of drugs, believed to be worth around ₹12 crores, was seized from Matipul in Karbi Anglong district’s Bokajan.

Approximately 1kg and 777grams of heroin were seized from their possession in a stop and search operation by Bokajan police.

The drugs were being transferred in a scooty bearing numbers AS 09 H 4234, packed in 150 soapboxes.

Both the smugglers were on their way to Naughat, Sarupathar in Golaghat district.

One of the smugglers, Saddam Hussain was shot at while he was trying to flee from police custody. He sustained injuries in one of his legs. 

Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma lauded the efforts of Bokajan Police in apprehending  the smugglers and seizing the drugs.

CM Sarma wrote, “In yet another smart operation by @assampolice, a team seized 1.77 kg heroin, in 150 soap boxes inside a two-wheeler at Matipul, at 9.30 pm on November 16. Two accused have been apprehended. Good work by @bokajanpolice. Much appreciated. @DGPAssamPolice.”
