ULFA(I) chief Paresh Baruah’s nephew goes missing

ULFA (Independent) chief Paresh Baruah’s nephew has reportedly gone missing amid reports that he could be on his way to joining the anti-talks faction of the rebel organization. Munna Baruah, son of Paresh Baruah’s elder brother Bimal, has been missing for the past three days from Digboi.

Family members have already lodged complaints with the police in Digboi and Chabua amid reports that Munna could have fled to join the rebel outfit his uncle Paresh Barua heads. Munna was working with IOC as a casual employee.

Incidentally, Munna’s disappearance comes amid reports of many other youths, including girls, joining ULFA(I) in recent days and months. A teenaged girl in Tinsukia district is believed to have joined the outlawed group after she went missing from her home at Lekhapani in May.

Family members and local people are now of the view that 19-year-old Karishma Mech, who had studied till Class X, has joined ULFA(I) although they initially thought she might have eloped with some youth.

A former AASU leader from Dergaon had also gone missing only to appear in a video showing him in armed outfits and with an assault rifle. He announced through the video that he had joined ULFA(I).

Two other youths from Udalguri are also believed to have joined the militant outfit after mysteriously disappearing from their homes.
