ULFA (I) releases abducted tea garden employee

PUBLISHED:

GUWAHATI, Oct 23: Gouranga Kumar Deb, an employee of Shankar Tea Estate in Tinsukia district who was abducted by a four-member group of ULFA (I) militants, has been released.

Deb was abducted from the tea estate premises in Dhola on Oct 11 this year.

His release comes a day after his daughter made a fervent appeal to the outlawed outfit to release her father. The distraught family had been appealing to the ULFA (I) since Deb’s abduction asking the outfit’s top bosses, including Paresh Baruah, to release him without any harm.

Deb, a fitter of the tea garden, was apparently abducted after the tea estate owners failed to pay extortion money the recalcitrant outfit had demanded.
