Days after Bordumsa OC Bhaskar Kalita was killed in a fierce shootout between security forces and anti-talks ULFA rebels, miscreants identifying themselves as ULFA (I) militants shot dead two persons at Rupai in Doomdooma in Tinsukia district along the Assam-Arunachal border Friday evening.
Reports say two armed youths opened fire at a shop killing two persons, one of them an employee of the shop named Jeet Verma, while the identity of the second is yet to be ascertained.
Police, meanwhile, have apprehended one person — 22-year-old Rupantor Moran alias Deepjyoti Moran — while his associate, 27-year-old Montu Moran, managed to flee. Police also recovered a motorcycle (Bajaj Pulsar bearing registration number AS-23-L-0413) from near the incident site.
Tinsukia SP Mugdhajyoti Mahanta told News Live that the youths who shot the two persons dead are petty criminals who were earlier arrested in robbery cases.
