GUWAHATI: A group of six men allegedly raped two young girls from Tripura in southern Assam’s Karimganj district on Friday night. The girls were returning in a vehicle from Silchar Medical College where their cancer patient mother was undergoing treatment. The driver mischievously took them to a house at Nilambazar where along with five other men raped the girls the whole night.
The incident came to light when the victims somehow managed to the nearby police station on Saturday evening.
“One accused has been arrested. Hopefully, we will catch other accused also. We have taken this case very seriously,” said Karimganj superintendent of police (SP).
The incident has sparked outrage among the local residents in the district.
“It is a heinous act. The rapists should get exemplary punishment,” said a woman.
