GUWAHATI: “PM Narendra Modi is likely to come to Kokrajhar on February 7. If he comes, chief minister Sonowal and I will definitely discuss the issue with PM and home minister Amit Shah,” said Assam health, finance and education minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma on ULFA(I) chief Paresh Baruah’s statement on talks.
United Liberation Front of Assam(I) commander-in-chief Paresh Baruah in an exclusive interview on Tuesday told News Live chief managing editor Syed Zarir Hussain that ULFA(I) is ready to come for peace talks on the outfit’s ‘core issue of sovereignty’.
“We have taken cognizance of Paresh Baruah’s statements. There is a positive indication in his remarks. I think Government of India will also take it positively,” said Dr. Sarma
However he stated that it is up to the centre to consider whether a democratically elected government can hold talks on the issue of sovereignty or not.
