Guwahati: Three more Nigerian citizens were detained by Assam Police on Friday evening for entering the state illegally from Hailakandi District’s Churaibari area, bordering Tripura. These Nigerians entered India through Tripura from Bangladesh and were on their way to Guwahati in a night super bus and were apprehended by the Assam Police. The porous Indo-Bangladesh border has made it easier for such elements to travel within the Northeast India said sources.
The three were carrying Nigerian passports but were without visa and have been identified as Ohaezube, Eteanyiwara and Asieme from Nigeria.
There has been a recent trend of Nigerians illegally entering the Northeast India through Bangladesh. Earlier, in the first week on November three Nigerians were detained for illegally entering the state.
The Assam and the Meghalaya police have so far detained over 25 Nigerians for illegally entering the country from Bangladesh.
