A special NIA court in Kolkata has convicted 19 people, including three Jamat-ul-Mujaheedin Bangladesh (JMB) recruits from Assam, in the 2014 Burdwan blast case.

Shaikhul Islam Khan @ Swaiful Islam Khan @ Abdullah of Kahikuchi village in Barpeta, Sahanoor Alom @ Sahanur Alam @ Doctor of Chatla village, Barpeta and Sahidul Islam @ Asraful Alam @ Nirmal @Surjo of Rowmaripathar, Barpeta were convicted for their role in the blast.

Four Bangladeshi citizens are also among the 19 convicted accused.

Sentencing in the case will be made on Aug 30.

All these accused have confessed to their crimes before the court, officials said.

Two people were killed on October 2, 2014 in the busy Khagragarh locality of West Bengal’s Burdwan district when an improvised explosive device that they were making went off.

The house was taken on rent by the banned JMB as a burqa stitching factory, they said.
