Guwahati: Former Congress leader Sushanta Borgohain joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday at its state headquarters in Guwahati.
Borgohain, who represents the Thowra constituency in the Assam Assembly resigned from the Congress party on Friday afternoon citing the existing political crisis in Assam Pradesh Congress Committee.
Borgohain had defeated BJP candidate Kushal Duwari in the Thowra constituency and was elected to the Assembly.
Borgohainis the second MLA from the Congress party to join the BJP after the saffron party came to power in Assam for the second time.
Earlier, in June 2021, former Mariani MLA Rupjyoti Kurmi joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
